The ATV Tennis Open reaches its thirteenth edition this year. The first tournament, worth $10,000, kicked off in 2005, with the Italian Romina Oprandi winning the title. The qualitative leap comes in 2007, when the prize money is raised to $100,000 in an edition with a stellar field of participation: the Belgian Caroline Maes wins, but there are two future top-10 and Grand Slam finalists such as Sara Errani and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (all fifteen years old), as well as Mirjana Lucic and Kristen Flipkens, who would reach the semifinals, respectively, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in the following years; Alizè Cornet was also on the draw, who the following year would reach the final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, barely touching a place among the top ten in the world. 2008 was the year of success for Tathiana Garbin, current captain of the Billie Jean King Cup (Italian women’s national team), and the first time at the Antico Tiro a Volo shooting of the then sixteen-year-old Camila Giorgi. In 2015 it is Martina Trevisan, recent semifinalist at Roland Garros 2022, who triumphs. The 2018 final is history: the very young Dayana Yastremska and Anastasia Potapova compete for the title, who a few months earlier had faced each other in the Wimbledon Junior final while the 2019 final sees Sara Errani return to success after a ride as difficult as it is exciting. The last edition of 2022 saw the triumph of the young Tara Wurth, who, starting from the qualifiers, reached the final by beating the top seed Chloe Paquet.

Overall there are five Italian champions of the tournament, while six tennis players present at the Antico Tiro a Volo who have reached the Top-10 in their career (Sara Errani, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Jelena Dokic, Julia Goerges, Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka). Two Grand Slam finalists and seven Major semifinalists. Also worth mentioning is the presence, over the years, of great protagonists of the WTA circuit such as Karin Knapp, Elena Bovina, Christina McHale, Liudmila Samsonova, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina and Jil Teichmann. The tournament also brought luck to the Brazilian doubles player Laura Pigossi who, after her victory at the Antico Tiro a Volo in 2018, won the Olympic bronze medal in the women’s doubles at Tokyo 2020.
