The ATV Tennis Open reaches its fifteenth edition this year. The first tournament, worth $10,000, kicked off in 2005, with the Italian Romina Oprandi winning the title. The leap in quality came in 2007, when the prize money was raised to $100,000 in an edition with a stellar field of participation: the Belgian Caroline Maes won, but there were two future top-10 and Slam finalists in Sara Errani and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (at the time fifteen years old), as well as Mirjana Lucic and Kristen Flipkens, who would reach the semifinals in the following years, respectively, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon; also in the draw was Alizè Cornet, who the following year would reach the final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, almost making it into the top ten in the world. 2008 was the year of success for Tathiana Garbin, current captain of the Billie Jean King Cup (Italian women’s national team), and the first time at the Antico Tiro a Volo for the then sixteen-year-old Camila Giorgi. In 2015, Martina Trevisan, recent semifinalist at Roland Garros 2022, triumphed. The 2018 final is history: competing for the title were the very young Dayana Yastremska and Anastasia Potapova, who a few months earlier had faced each other in the Wimbledon Junior final, while the 2019 final saw Sara Errani return to success after a ride as difficult as it was exciting. The 2022 edition saw the triumph of the young Tara Wurth, who, starting from the qualifications, reached the final by beating the top seed Chloe Paquet. The last edition of 2023 saw the triumph of the Spanish Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro who prevailed against the Cypriot Raluca Georgiana Serban.

Overall, there are five Italian champions of the tournament, while six tennis players present at the Antico Tiro a Volo have reached the Top-10 in their careers (Sara Errani, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Jelena Dokic, Julia Goerges, Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka). Two Slam finalists and seven semifinalists in the Majors. Also worth mentioning is the presence, over the years, of great protagonists of the WTA circuit such as Karin Knapp, Elena Bovina, Christina McHale, Liudmila Samsonova, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina and Jil Teichmann. The tournament has also brought luck to the Brazilian doubles player Laura Pigossi who, after her victory at the Antico Tiro a Volo in 2018, won the Olympic bronze medal in women’s doubles in Tokyo 2020.

The ATV Tennis Open organized on the courts of the Circolo Antico Tiro a Volo has been recognized, over the years, as one of the fundamental stages for players on the international tennis scene.
